Hi Nina and Jeff,

The Dehydrator Cookbook for Outdoor Adventures by Food for the Sole Founder Julie Mosier has good info on using a home dehydrator. I’m sure Mechanical Man will have some additional thoughts too.

THANKS! Amy

For those dehydrating your own meals, do you use a dehydrator? I’m planning a several week bicycle trip. Yes there will be stores along the way but I have some dietary issues to contend with and want to know I have some meals I can count on.

Mechanical Man… what are your favorite dehydrated meals you make?

I question #1. I have thru hiked the AT and many other long distance trails and I always spend many hours dehydrating my meals and snacks and have not gotten sick of them. The pluses are: 1. Much cheaper than buying prepackaged meals. 2. My meals have zero additives, preservatives, etc and are healthier. 3. My meals are super lightweight and don’t take up much room. 4. They take very little time to cook.
