It's a new edition of The Cache, your bi-weekly roundup for all things ultralight. New gear, new brands, interesting events, curious conversations, sales, giveaways, and just about anything and everything that we find remotely relevant. This week we look at: The Prism Collection by Hyperlite Mountain Gear, fall leaves, fat bears, and Reel Rock 14.
Hyperlite has come out with a TON of new products this year. As the weather turns colder, HMG is launching its new Prism Collection. Consisting of the new Prism Pack, Prism Ice Screw Case, and the Prism Crampon Bag, these items can be purchased separately or together at a slight discount. Like everything else HMG, all three items are made from DCF. While not technically on the market yet, they are available for preorder and have a ship date of October 21st.
Sure it excludes large spaces in the USA where fall does exist in beautiful forms, but nonetheless it is a rundown of when and where to see the best leaves this fall!
Like climbing? Like the idea of climbing? Like watching other people climb? "Reel Rock, one of climbing's greatest celebrations, returns this fall with a new collection of world premiere films." Featuring familiar faces such as Tommy Caldwell and Alex Honnold, this preview has us excited!
Nope, it's not your office's march madness bracket, it is, in fact, the 5th annual Fat Bear Week! While we would go into detail, the competition is pretty straight forward... Don't bet too much money.
"The annual March Madness-style competition, now in its fifth year, pits some of the well-known bears of the Brooks River against one another for the title of 2019 Fattest Bear. Bear Cam viewers and fans of Katmai’s bears are the ones who decide which bear looks the fattest. The public is encouraged to vote on Katmai National Park and Preserve’s Facebook page in head-to-head matches each day beginning October 2nd. The bear whose photo receives the most likes will advance to the next round, until one bear is crowned “Fattest Bear” on Fat Bear Tuesday, October 8th."
