This past week, Hyperlite Mountain Gear released the eagerly anticipated Dirigo 2. Their new 2 person tent weighs just 28oz (1.75lbs), and is crafted from 5 different types of strategically placed Dyneema Composite Fabrics. Lightweight, waterproof, designed for 3 season use, trekking pole supported, and made right here in the USA, the Dirigo 2 is now available on Hyperlite Mountain Gear for $795.

I’m known to treat myself to some amazing untralight gear, but the price of $795 is more than my budget or conscience will allow. In comparison to other ultralight 2-person tents currently on the market, this one requires at least a Silicon Valley salary to think about purchasing.

Way to much $$$$ . We are poor long distance hikers that quit our jobs to enjoy what we love to do, not wall streeters

Quality vs quantity. You can buy 6 tents in the same span of time you own a Hyperlite, and you’re actually spending more and creating a whole lot of waste. Planned obsolescence is very real, and we should all work to support companies that make quality products & reduce waste. Thank you Hyperlite!

It is a nice looking tent but not really a chance I would purchase it at that price:/

Tent looks great but $795 is a bunch for people with limited resources
