The Cache: "It Is The People", Gryphon Gear, OR, and the Voormi Wolf Creek Parka

Lloyd Vogel

It's a new edition of The Cache, your bi-weekly roundup for all things ultralight. New gear, new brands, interesting events, curious conversations, sales, giveaways, and just about anything and everything that we find remotely relevant. This week we look at AN AMAZING video from the PCT, Gryphon Gear, the relevance of OR, and the new Voormi Wolf Creek Parka!

Video to Inspire!

While this came out almost a month ago, if you haven't watched it yet, you are in for a real treat. It Is The People wonderfully displays the emotion, beauty, challenge and community that is the PCT. Haven't watched it? Stop reading this and get ready to have your emotions hijacked for the next sixteen minutes and twenty-seven seconds.

New Brand to Ogle!

Emerging quietly and mysteriously out of West Bloomfield, Michigan, we stumbled upon Gryphon gear a couple of weeks back and were immediately interested. Founded by Gary Benninger with help from Pierce Fitzpatrick (founder of no longer operational High Route Gear), Gryphon Gear recently released a handful of quilts and sleeping bags. When we know more, we'll let you know! Startup story on the horizon?

New Gear to Ogle!

Ultralight? Nope! Ultrawarm? Yup! Now available for pre-order the Wolf Creek Parka by Voormi is "The warmest outerwear we’ve ever created, and quite possibly the world’s most rugged and versatile sub-zero parka."

It's the biggest, warmest, baddest, and most expensive jacket Voormi has released to date. Order now with delivery in January!

Food for Thought: How Relevant is Outdoor Retailer?

If you are at all associated with the outdoor industry, you are probably at least familiar with Outdoor Retailer. It's a massive outdoor trade show whose size and scope is only matched by the incredible cost (and extravagance) of booth space. While we'll share our thoughts in a future blog post, NEMO's founder Cam Brensinger wrote down his thoughts for SNEWS. We found them interesting!
