In the span of two stitch-filled years, Timmermade sprang from pastime garage hobby to lucrative business. Founder Dan Timmerman was inspired by some friends who hiked the Appalachian Trail with simple gear they had made on their own. From there, he dissected an old sleeping bag to see how it was made, and re-made it into a new one. He also ordered up some materials and tried his hand at basic synthetic gear. It wasn't long before friends proposed he try selling his creations. Instagram provided his fledgling project the exposure it needed to gain well-deserved traction in the ultralight community, and the momentum continues today. His tardigrade-inspired hood combines durability with novel design, and nearly matches the unparalleled resilience of our favorite space-dwelling micro-animal.
