When Thrunotes founder Russell Hepton started hiking back in 2015, he typed notes on his phone. Journalling on the trail is good for his mental wellbeing, but it was a cold and impersonal way of remembering the miles he'd hiked. Saving battery was important, his notes weren’t organized and he couldn’t get creative. Russell wanted to stop taking notes on his phone and get away from the distraction, but couldn’t find a notebook good enough for the job.
Any notebook he tried was too wide, too tall, too heavy and would fall apart after a few days. Russell wanted to create a waterproof, strong, lightweight and environmentally-responsible notebook designed specifically for thru-hiking. So he did and decided to call it Thrunotes.
