Hyperlite Mountain Gear is not about bells and whistles, nonessential features or the latest trending colors. The Maine company builds stripped-down, high-performance, outdoor gear that’s dialed in to meet, in as minimalist a manner as possible, the exacting requirements of goal-oriented adventurers.
Mike St. Pierre founded Hyperlite Mountain Gear after he couldn't find the exact gear he wanted for his ultralight backpacking trips. He came across Cuben fiber, ordered some of the fabric and was soon building his own equipment. That snowballed into schooling himself on production and R&D processes; and then business development.
Hyperlite Mountain Gear continues to make its backpacks, shelters and other equipment in Maine, in what was once an abandoned cotton mill.
