Hey, hey, hey, welcome to the latest in the Live on Kickstarter series. As the authority on outdoor gear startups, we always have an eye on unique outdoor gear rolling off crowdfunding sites. We started this series to share our best finds with you.
If you missed them, here are the links to our last two articles in the series:
No more propping your phone up with a water bottle or balancing it on rocks to get that perfect Instagram shot. Pocket Tripod folds up to the size of a credit card and slides easily into your wallet, so you’ll always have it with you. The newest version of the product, now live on Kickstarter, is compatible with a wide-range of phones and cases, and accommodates both vertical and horizontal photos.
Duct tape. It’s great for quick fixes, not so much for long-term ones. When Kelli Jones ripped her brand new puffy jacket on a barbed wire fence, she came up with the idea of making DIY fabric patches that easily stick to jackets, sleeping bags and tents. Fast forward three years. Kelli waded her way through fabric sourcing, manufacturing and creating packaging, and is now launching NoSo Patches on Indiegogo. The patches are offered in 13 different shapes and six different colors, including reflective patches.
Patrol USA Canvas Work Pants
Work pants ... we love wearing them, after they’ve been broken in. Patrol USA is revolutionizing work pants by blending 2 percent spandex with 12.5 ounce cotton canvas. The result? A supple work pant that moves with you as you scale crags and pound nails. The pants are made in the USA, come in four colors and feature a no-frills design that includes a slightly loosened seat and thighs for increased range of motion.
Pakayak Bluefin 14
A place where we’ve seen a lot of innovation in the last few years is packable water crafts. Packrafts are taking the market by storm and the origami-styled Oru kayak blew its 2013 Kickstarter campaign out of the water. The latest invention in this market definitely caught our attention: the Pakayak Bluefin 14 is a hard-shell 14-foot kayak that nests inside itself to 3 1/2 feet. Think Russian dolls meets outdoor adventure. The Pakayak is made in the USA and assembles in less than 5 minutes.
Cotopaxi Inti 2
It’s a two-person tent. No, it’s a four-person tent. No, it’s super tent. The new Cotopaxi Inti 2 is designed to expand with your group size. The system starts with a two-person standalone tent. A large alcove, which includes a floor, snaps to that two-person tent, effectively doubling the sleeping and storage space. The alcove can also be set up on its own to provide protection from the afternoon sun or a thunderstorm – or used for an ultralight solo backpacking trip. Options, baby, options.
