This Week in Outdoor Gear Startups: Cloudline Releases Retro Style Hiking Socks

Cloudline Retro Style Hiking Socks Merino Wool Modern Performance

Cloudline Apparel – a Seattle-based startup – just released its Medium Cushion hiking socks in retro designs. These 80s inspired socks blend old school cool with modern performance.

Made from merino wool, Cloudline’s Retro Socks feature a dialed-in fit that can withstand hundreds of trail miles. Additionally, these premium socks wick moisture, regulate temperature and resist odor.

“Both Joe and I were born in the 80s rocking 3-stripe cotton tube socks, so the style has a special place in our hearts,” said Cloudline’s co-founder Austin Campbell. “Then while watching Season 2 of Stranger Things and feeling nostalgic we came up with the idea of making an 80s inspired sock blended with modern materials and features.”

In its first weeks, Cloudline’s retro sock has been well received.

“People have been super enthusiastic about them,” Austin said. “I think for the same reasons we were inspired to create them, people feel a nostalgic connection to the style. We also based the design on our most popular hiking sock, so the community already knows the design can handle their next adventure.”

Cloudline selected the colorways with a nod to Seattle and the Pacific Northwest, with the Green and Yellow inspired by the now defunct Supersonics NBA team who Austin and Joe grew up with.

Cloudline’s entire line, including its new retro socks, is available on Garage Grown Gear.
