This week is a time to celebrate another beautiful year, enjoy our friends and family and indulge in life’s luxuries. While the break from our daily routines is definitely welcome, it can also derail us from getting outdoors and staying active. Here are 6 simple tips for how to make the holidays both happy and healthy.
1) KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)
Go for a run and finish it off with a few push-ups and crunches. Your holiday workout doesn't need to be complicated.
2) Get the whole family involved
Play pond hockey; go cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking; or just throw a football or Frisbee around.
3) Do it early
Once the libations and treats start flowing, it's hard to motivate.
4) Visit a climbing gym, rec center, yoga studio, spin class, etc.
Sign up now for a local class. Or, if you’re traveling, check out one of the cool offerings at your destination.
5) Set expectations
Let your family and friends know in advance what time you have carved out for a workout, so you don't get sidelined by some unexpected obligation.
6) Have fun! Maybe even play a little!
The time spent outdoors this week can be full of fun, silliness and laughter!
