A few reflections from Amy:As I look at the banner we used last year to announce our launch (below), the words of Grateful Dead come to mind, "Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip it's been." Over the last year I've had moments when I've felt on top of the world, and I've also experienced some pretty deep lows, sometimes less like a valley and more like the Grand Canyon, in terms of just how deep and down it felt. Or, again, in the words of Grateful Dead: "Sometimes the light's all shinin' on me, Other times I can barely see." For the play-by-play report, check out my 2014 Year in Review post. But here we are. Still standing, still putting one foot in front of the other.
I don't use that term we lightly. I can't tell you how amazing it feels to have a team in place, to no longer have it just be me steering this boat.
Chris "Jigidy" Jensen has become my right hand man. His official title is "store and brand manager." But that just describes the tip of the iceberg in terms of all that he does to keep this place cranking. He runs our Facebook page, does all the customer service and is a pretty good gear tester too. He's also one of the most hilarious people you'll ever meet, and keeps us all laughing with his constant stream of YouTube links, stand up routines and secret life as a DJ.
Trevor, our numbers guru, feels better about life when the books are balanced (his confession, not mine; but I sure do sleep better at night knowing he's on to of it).
Chris, Amy & Trevor during a team meeting skiing Teton PassMary Lynn has a brilliant mind when it comes to digital marketing, goal setting and team organization. She helps me to think big picture when I'm stuck in the weeds. Chuck, our developer, is a coding genius. I have yet to put a technical challenge to him that he hasn't been able to figure out. Erica is our newest addition to the team. She's tackling product descriptions out of the gates, a skill she's been honing for more than a decade. I'm still not sure how we scored her expertise. And, then, to top it all off we have an incredibly seasoned and talented team of writers for our magazine: Kelsey, Morgan, Frank, Fritz, Jeannette and Christine. And a growing cadre of incredible advisers and friends & family investors: Rod, Greg, Cleve, Fletcher, Nancy, Kathe, Gene, and Jenny. If you want to check out our official bios and see our pics, click here. My husband Cory also deserves some serious recognition for bringing Garage Grown Gear to where it stands today. His support, emotionally and financially, and his wellspring of brilliant ideas (including coming up with the name "Garage Grown Gear") have played a critical role. Love you, sweetheart. But of all the people I'm thankful for, it you, our customers. There's no two ways about it. We wouldn't have made it this far without you.
